Liberace Scholarship Competition

Funded by The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts

The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University is pleased to announce the Liberace Scholarship Competition for the academic year 2007-2008. Winners of the competition (2 violin, 1 viola, 1 cello) will receive up to $2000 in support of tuition and fees from the Liberace Center for the Arts. The winners will form the Liberace String Quartet and will be recognized as Liberace Scholars throughout the award period. The competition is limited to music majors in the junior, senior, or graduate years (at least 60 semester hours for undergraduate completed prior to Fall Semester 2007.)

Expectations:

The members of the Liberace String Quartet will exhibit the highest standards of musical performance, academic achievement, and leadership. The quartet will rehearse a minimum of five hours per week during the academic year and will perform for school, university, and community events as requested. Educational outreach to the public schools is also a possibility. Members of the quartet must meet the minimum scholarship requirements for the Hayes School of Music including the minimum GPA of 2.75. (See Student Handbook, Scholarships in Music.)

Competition:

The Liberace Scholarship Competition will be held on Friday, April 27, 2007.

Contestants will perform a solo (or solos) of choice with a maximum total performance time of 5-10 minutes.

The winners of the competition must complete and submit the Liberace Scholar Profile and Agreement Form, a resume, and a picture to Ms. Anna Kuhlman (Room 209) prior to Friday, September 14, 2007.
