Graduate Study in Music Therapy - Requirements

Advanced Music Therapy Theory and Practice Courses (8 s.h.)

  • MUS 5050 Supervision and Collegiate Teaching in Music Therapy – 2 s.h.
  • MUS 5051 Advanced Topics in Music Therapy - 3 s.h.
  • MUS 5061 Advanced Clinical Improvisation – 3 s.h.

Advanced Music Therapy Experiential Courses (6 s.h.)

  • MUS 5060 Guided Imagery and Music, Level I – 3 s.h.

  • Guided Imagery and Music, Level II – 3 s.h.
  • MUS 5200 Music Therapy Laboratory – required each semester enrolled – 0 s.h.
  • MUS 5900 Advanced Music Therapy Practicum – 3 s.h.

Note: MUS 5060 Guided Imagery and Music, Level I requires participation in a 5-day intensive workshop that is conducted off-campus between academic terms and requires payment of workshop fees in addition to tuition. Guided Imagery and Music, Level II requires participation in a 6-day intensive workshop that is conducted off-campus and requires payment of workshop fees in addition to tuition.

Clinical Specialty Courses (12 s.h.)

The student selects or designs a core of supportive courses relevant to the student's clinical specialty. Specialty Areas are Addictions, Expressive Arts, Gerontology, Health Care, Mental Health, Special Education, and General. The General Specialty Area is for students who, in consultation with their advisor, design their own specialty area.

Research
NOTE: Students who have not had a previous course in statistics must complete one course in statistics in addition to one research course selected from those listed below.
