Hold the date! The Appalachian Cultural Museum is going to Broadway!

      Well, technically Broadway is coming to North Carolina. Four wonderful Broadway shows will be a part of the Appalachian Cultural Museum travel program with Bettie and John Bond, this fall and beyond. All are on Sunday, all are matinees, and all are day trips to Charlotte.

October 15, 2006 - The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, in the Belk Theater. Adult actors portray six pubescent brainiacs in this sweet, hilarious show with songs by William Finn. According to one reviewer “it was absolutely hilarious and adorable. It may sound like a kids show, but it is definitely aimed at adults. Kids will enjoy the fun, fast-paced musical but may not get all of the jokes, which will leave adults rolling in the aisles.” http://www.spellingbeethemusical.com/

December 10, 2006 - Monty Python's Spamalot, the musical based on the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," at Ovens Auditorium. Winner of the 2005 Tony for Best Musical, "Spamalot," is a “resplendently silly new musical” and “the best new musical to open on Broadway this season,” according to the New York Times.

February 18, 2007 - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, coming to the Belk Theater, has been called “one of the most deliciously funny, smashing shows of the last 20 years!” This hit musical is based on the 1988 movie (itself a remake of the 1964 movie "Bedtime Story"). Two con men with conflicting work habits compete to control the action in the French Riviera. But who's conning whom?
