The Political Science/Criminal Justice Department and the International Relations Association of Appalachian State University are sponsoring Model United Nations Conference on the Appalachian State University campus.  This program is a way of getting students involved in and aware of the various international events that are affecting the interests and well-being of the United States and the world as we move into the new century. 

The Committees that will be simulated at our conference this year are:

Security Council (15 states)
GA 1st Committee (International Security & Disarmament) (all states)
GA 2nd Committee (Economic & Financial)
(all states)
United Nations Environmental Programme (all states)
Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC) (54 states)
European Union (27 states)

SPECIAL CRISIS COUNCIL (separate application)


 

ACTIVITIES

Registration  2:00 pm- 5:00 pm 2nd Session 9:00 am- 12:15 pm
Rules Overview 3:15 pm - 3:50 pm Lunch Break  12:15-1:30 pm
Welcoming Remarks 4:00 pm - 4:10 pm 3rd  Session  1:30 pm-4:00 pm
Opening Statements 4:10 pm - 5:00 pm Break 4:00 pm - 4:10 pm
Dinner Break  5:00 pm - 6:30 pm **Awards Ceremony 4:10 pm -4:40 pm
Opening Session 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm ** if space for entire council can be found; if
Ice Cream Social 9:00-10:00 pm not, then awards will be given out in individual councils

 
REGISTRATION INFORMATION

A non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 for the first delegation and $10 for each additional delegation is required with the return of the attached application form (if paying by check, make it payable to International Relations Association).

There also is a fee of $10.00 per delegate to help defray the expenses of the conference that will be paid on the day of the conference.

Applications will be accepted until October 31, 2008.

When applications are received, country assignments and information about local hotels will be sent.
